Haley was scheduled to participate in a late-night meeting of the Security Council on Monday, which would have made her the first Trump envoy to address the General Assembly.
"If she does it, I will speak to her about it," said Ukraine's U.N. Ambassador Volodymyr Yelchenko, who also said that he has spoken to Haley and urged her to "avoid" using the General Assembly platform.
"I say to Nikki Haley: 'If you are going to use the General Assembly for any kind of initiative, do not use the diplomatic platform,' " said another diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity.
He said he also told Haley "to be very careful" about addressing the General Assembly. "If they will use it, we will be obliged to walk out," the diplomat said.
Diplomats said Haley's planned appearance before the General Assembly was a "unique situation" that could lead to a "massive diplomatic breach" with the U.S. president's first U.N. speech and a breaking of protocol.
